Protect Akron Save Money

Akron Skyline

During this election month, Akron residents have the opportunity to shape our city’s future by voting YES on important amendments to the Akron Charter that will:

  • Save taxpayers money
  • Stop election abuse
  • Protect public safety

Issues 11 – 17 are supported by concerned Akron citizens and grew out of recommendations by the bipartisan Charter Review Commission. Akron City Council placed Issues 11 – 17 on the ballot to seek your approval and has endorsed all seven issues.

ISSUE 11 prioritizes Akron job creation and development, with no increase in taxes. It will amend the Charter to include the Department of Economic and Job Development that creates new jobs in manufacturing, in our growing medical industry and in the new services sector.

ISSUE 12 standardizes the number of signatures needed for ballot issues, limiting special interests’ ability to force special elections that cost way too much.  The amendment will increase the time for obtaining petition signatures and prohibit recall election times.

ISSUE 13 saves Akron money by encouraging more cooperation with other government agencies to provide and receive services.  It will create greater efficiencies in the management and operations of government.

ISSUE 14 requires Akron City Council to enact ethics and campaign finance laws so that our elections are always fair.  Laws will be enacted within 90 days of passage and will require review every two years.

ISSUE 15 rewards Military Veterans and Akron residents with preference points for city jobs.  This amendment will allow these groups preference points of 20% on civil service exams.

ISSUE 16 saves Akron money by allowing the city to lease its money-losing Recycle Energy System.

ISSUE 17 protects public safety by dedicating funds to police, EMS, fire and snow removal departments with no increase in taxes, by extending the existing income tax out from years 2033 to 2038.  ISSUE 17 IS ENDORSED BY THE AKRON FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE.

Early voting began September 28.  To find out more about registration and how you can cast your ballot between now and November 2 through early voting, click on the Action Center tabs.
